Section 5 — Preset/Track Parameters TS-10 Musician’s Manual
4
Press the Brightness/Timbre button again to get to the Timbre page:
Timbre Page Range: 000 to 127
The Timbre page provides an easy way to make useful changes to the character of a sound
without getting into more complex programming. This performance parameter uses the Data
Entry Slider or Up/Down Arrow buttons to control various aspects of the sound, depending on
what the programmer has decided would be useful.
As one of the voice modulation sources, Timbre can be assigned to any parameter that can be
modulated in a sound or effect. The Timbre control can be connected to parameters such as filter
cutoff, waveform modulation, LFO rate, and others. It is a good idea to experiment with the
Timbre setting to hear what it has been programmed to do in each sound.
The Timbre parameter also controls the relative volume modulation amounts for each of the six
program voices (assigned on the TIMBRE sub-page found on the Program Control Page). This
allows you to determine how much louder or softer each voice will become as the Timbre
modulation controller is increased or decreased.
All tracks whose MIDI Status is set to SEND/RECV, SEND/----, LOCAL-OFF or VOICE-OFF will
send a MIDI Continuous Controller message (controller 71) with the indicated value whenever
this parameter is edited. Preset tracks will also send this controller message when a preset is
selected. This parameter does not affect Sampled Sounds.
The default value of Timbre is stored with the Program, and is restored whenever the Program is
selected or placed on a track. The default value can be edited on the Program Control page.
Press the Brightness/Timbre button a third time to get to the External Control page:
External Control Page Range: 000 to 127
The External Control parameter transmits on a user-definable MIDI Controller number (set on
the MIDI Control Page), and transmits the full range of 000 to 127. It will also modulate any
voice or effect parameters that have XCTRL selected as a Mod Source. Any remote MIDI device
that can transmit the same MIDI Controller number can act as a modulator by sending controller
messages to the TS-10.
All tracks whose MIDI Status is set to SEND/RECV, SEND/----, LOCAL-OFF or VOICE-OFF will
send a MIDI Continuous Controller message (on the controller number assigned to the XCTRL
parameter on the MIDI Control page) with the indicated value whenever this parameter is edited.
Preset tracks will also send this controller message when a preset is selected.
The default value of XCTRL is stored with the Program, and is restored whenever the Program is
selected or placed on a track. The default value can be edited on the Program Control page.
